The civil society contact office for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in Brandenburg – abbreviated to KIKO – was set up in 2024 on behalf of the brandenburgische Frauenhäuser e.V. KIKO supports NGOs and service providers in the state of Brandenburg by providing information and promoting collaboration.

The NGOs and service providers are essential if the Istanbul Convention is to be successfully implemented in Brandenburg.

KIKO’s Aims

Netzwerke stärken

Strengthen networks

As long as violence is ongoing, support for victims must be reinforced. Key to this is strong and sustainable networking among the actors involved. We support the creation and maintenance of communal, regional, and national networks to combat violence.

Increase awareness

In order to effectively combat violence, it is essential that all persons gain an awareness of what gender-based and domestic violence is, how it is affected by gender relations, what rights they have, and where they can get support in demanding those rights. This is why we promote education and publicity.
sensibilisieren
Umsetzung begleiten

Accompany implementation measures

Protecting those affected by gender-based and domestic violence and working to end it is part of Germany and Brandenburg’s duty in upholding human rights. That is why we are committed to supporting the implementation of the Istanbul Convention by assessing needs, and engaging in politics.

Advisory board

A project advisory board was set up in order to incorporate as many different perspectives as possible into the work of the KIKO. The board advises the KIKO team and supports us as we develop our ongoing strategy.

We are delighted to introduce the following board members:

Gender-based violence means violent behaviour inflicted upon an individual or group of individuals due to their gender identity. This term is used in order to highlight that societal structures affect a person’s risk of experiencing certain forms of violence. Those who suffer most are women and girls, trans, non-binary, and intersex persons, but so do people who do not comply with certain social norms or fit into a binary gender system.
